iii PREFACE Since the inception of the Cornell Modern Indonesia Project in 1955> we have been aware of a need to standardize and bring together in published form essential data which, while available, must be searched for in scattered sources which are often difficult of access. Given the regularity with whieh members of our Project and others have requested information on the composition of particular Indonesian cabinets, we felt that it would be helpful to compile for publication all the information available to us on the composition of cabinets, from 1945 to the present. Such a listing as this should, we feel sure, be a useful reference work for all those concerned with the political development of modern Indonesia. It is our hope to bring out other compilations of basic data in the future. The cabinet lists are presented here either as originally announced or as they were constituted within a few days of formation. Subsequent changes, insofar as available data gives them, are incorporated in the footnotes. The main body of the text is followed by a list of all the parties represented in cabinets (before the elimination of party affiliations) and an index of people appointed to all cabinets, from 1945 to the present. Many people have contributed iriformation and assistance in the bringing together of this compilation, but we are partic- ularly indebted to Ratmoko, the late A. K. Prlnggodigdo, and Herbert Feith.
